02:10 The Early Years
Danny Bryant Blues Rock
Format: CD
- Danny Bryant

BIG
Danny Bryant Blues Rock
Format: CD
BIG is the realization of a dream that has accompanied the British blues guitarist and singer Danny Bryant since the beginning of his career. The dream of recording his songs live with a 9-piece big band was put into reality. The charismatic musician presented his songs to his audience at three exclusive shows in Germany and the Netherlands, supported by keyboards, bass, drums, rhythm guitar and a 4-piece brass section.
Danny Bryant performed songs of his latest three studio albums Hurricane, Temperature Rising and Blood Money, all re-arranged for a big band. Among were songs that were never been played live before, such as the title song of the 2014 album Temperature Rising”. Together with blues classics like the emotional As The Years Go Passing By (Otis Rush), the result is a high-tension mix of songs. The concerts were recorded by Danny Bryant's producer Richard Hammerton, who was also responsible for the last three studio albums. The result is so brilliant that the album will be released in physical format as a double live CD and on vinyl on 21 April 2017. Danny will celebrate the release with three big-band shows in Belfast, Edinburgh and London at the end of April. Danny: Recording this special live project has been a real labour of love for me. For a long time I have dreamed of hearing my songs placed in the context of a big band setting. Everyone gelled together so perfectly and the three shows that we recorded (the results of which you hold in your hands) were among some of the most enjoyable of my career so far. I can honestly say that I am more proud of this album than any project I have ever done.

Blood Money
Danny Bryant Blues Rock
Format: CD
“Working with Bernie Marsden and Walter Trout on this album has been a career highlight for me.” Danny Bryant Danny Bryant is pleased to announce the release of his highly anticipated new studio album “Blood Money” – released by Jazzhaus Records on Friday 29th January 2016. His third album to be produced by Richard Hammerton, following in the footsteps of 2014’s Temperature Rising and 2012’s Hurricane, the new album features Danny collaborating with Walter Trout and Bernie Marsden on two tracks. Says Bryant, “I wanted to make this album ever since I began my musical journey 20 years ago as a 15 year old boy who fell in love with his parent’s record collection.” On Blood Money, Bryant set out to record an album that showed an introspective return to his roots and an appreciation of his blues influences, by paying homage, as he puts it “to all the different influences and flavours of this wonderful music that I have loved for many years.” Line-up: Bryant, Danny - Guitar and vocals Phillips, Alex - Bass Raeburn , Dave - Drums Hammerton , Richard - Keys and backing vocals Particular tracks like ‘On the Rocks’ is a homage to the late great Albert Collins, ‘Holding All The Cards’ is a tribute to Jimmy Reed, while ‘Unchained’ harks back to vintage Albert King Stax recordings. The title track, ‘Blood Money’, was a song that Bryant had on the fire for several years. He just needed the right time and the right collaborator to bring the song to life. This particular song was specifically written with Walter Trout in mind, who was Bryant’s guitar mentor when he had a chance meeting with him at a concert when he was only 14 years old. “I wanted us to share the song with Walter,” says Bryant. “I am really thrilled that he agreed to play guitar on the track. I think his contribution is truly stunning.” Another highlight of the Blood Money recording sessions was the contribution from Mr Bernie Marsden. One of Bryant’s all-time favourite guitarists and singer-songwriters, Bryant invited Marsden to record a special ballad that Bryant had written entitled ‘Just Won’t burn’. The song was recorded in one afternoon and during the recording, Bryant got the opportunity to play Marsden’s famous 1959 Les Paul -‘The Beast’.

Hurrican
Danny Bryant Blues Rock
Format: LP
Previously hailed as a young guitar virtuoso, and a protégé of Walter Trout, Danny Bryant is building a formidable reputation as a leading British blues rock guitar heavyweight in his own right. Recorded as a power trio, the new album was produced by Richard Hammerton (Manic Street Preachers). The nine songs showcase the evolution of Bryant as both guitarist and songwriter. The album bursts with power-fueled originals, groove-driven up-tempo songs, and soulful blues ballads. Danny retreated to the rural solitude of the county of Cornwall in the southwest of the UK to record the new album. It was just like time travel, says Danny. Since there was almost no phone reception or internet connection, I spent between 15-18 hours a day concentrating on nothing but the music. The difference to the previous studio album Just As I Am (2010) is based mainly in the production. Says Danny - The songs are the result of hard work and have gained considerable complexity. This is evident not only in the melodic title track, but also with the ballad Can`t Hold On, not to mention the funky-bluesy Greenwood 31 – a song that harks back to a similar urgency in the style of Jimi Hendrix mixed with the attitude of Lenny Kravitz. Inspired by American rockers including John Hiatt and Bruce Springsteen, Bryant looks back on some of his career highlights. Reflects Danny - Recording the live album Nightlife (2012) was a milestone. Over the past few years we’ve constantly toured Europe, and in doing so, we have broken new ground both musically and geographically. The results are evident from the reaction from the audiences. In the beginning, people were primarily coming to the concerts to see a young guitar player, says Danny, but these days I think they’re coming because of songs, voice and overall performance.

Means Of Escape
Danny Bryant Blues
Format: CD
Danny Bryant, the critically acclaimed British Blues rock guitarist, is pleased to announce the release of his 11th studio album, "Means of Escape”. “Bryant, who has been described as a "National Blues Treasure” by Classic Rock magazine, returns with his most powerful collection of songs to date. Making his debut as a producer, the guitarist assembled a truly stellar collection of world class personnel to help him to craft an album that he has been, “waiting his whole career to create.” Engineered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Ian Dowling (Adele, KT Tunstall) and recorded at Lincolnshire's famed Chapel Studios, "Means of Escape" features nine tracks of blistering Blues rock of the highest caliber. From the thundering opening bars of "Tired of Trying”, to the haunting melody of the closing instrumental, “Mya". The entire album is an emotional rollercoaster that hits you right between the eyes and straight through the heart. Mixed in Nashville by the legendary Eddie Spear (Rival Sons, U2, Chris Stapleton), “Means of Escape" delivers on the artist’s promise to make a collection of Blues Rock songs that are powerful, contemporary and bold. Featuring Bryant's dynamic touring band, many of the tracks were recorded live in the studio in one or two takes. The album burns with energy and emotion from the start and never fades. From the primal cry of "Too Far Gone”, to the explosive slide playing of "Hurting Time”, Danny Bryant is at the top of his A game. Mastered at London’s world-famous Abbey Road Studios by Grammy award-winning Sean Magee (Gary Moore, The Rolling Stones), Bryant has finally captured the raw energy and excitement of his live shows. "This album was a joy to make from start to finish,” says Danny. “I can honestly say I’m proud of this piece of work more than anything I have done in my 20-year career. Music is my release in the world, it's my way of surviving, it’s my means of escape.” Danny goes into more depth about the making of the new album – “I decided to produce this record myself. The primary reason being that I had a selection of songs that I felt would benefit from being cut ‘live’ in the studio, with myself and the band all playing together, feeding off the energy in the room, and capturing the magic of a live performance.” “I wanted these songs to retain their urgency and excitement and not get lost in over production. For the sessions, we used my regular road band (both four-piece and Big Band formats) and, for the most part, that is how we made the album – minimal overdubs and lots of fun and passion.” “For the recording process, I wanted to surround myself with the best of the best to help me achieve the desired impact and create a recording of the highest audio quality.” “We chose Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire due to ist fantastic sounding live room and huge selection of high-end vintage equipment. To record and engineer the album we selected Ian Dowling.” “Once the album was recorded, the sessions were then mixed in Nashville by the legendary Eddie Spear. Eddie has worked with a whole host of bands such as U2, Rival Sons, and Chris Stapleton, and across many genres. I am a fan of his mixes. The brief was to achieve a clear, powerful and modern sounding studio album. I’m proud of the results.”

Revelation
Danny Bryant Blues Rock
Format: CD
His fourth studio album to be produced by Richard Hammerton, following in the footsteps of 2015’s Blood Money and 2014’s Temperature Rising, the new album is one of Danny’s most personal and emotional album of his career. When I began writing this album, I knew that it was going to be one of the toughest challenges of my career,” says Danny. It wasn't lack of material, it wasn't a lack of desire, but I realised from the beginning that, if this record was to achieve the things I wanted it to say, I would have to go deep inside of myself with these songs and confront memories and emotions I didn't really want to face. Most of all, be completely honest in my writing or it wouldn’t work. The year preceding this album was, for personal reasons, the very hardest of my life. In the space of six months I lost one of my oldest and closest friends and shortly thereafter my father passed away, after a long tough illness. Dad played bass in my band for many years and together we stood side by side playing over two thousand shows, we travelled the world together, he was my best friend and the bedrock of this family. I was struck with a deep depression and crippling anxiety and in times like this I have always found salvation within music. So these songs are dark in subject matter, they are about isolation, despair, and dark times. They question things that I previously had never considered. But this is not an album of dirge music, don’t misunderstand. Indeed, many of the songs are upbeat in tempo and reveal a much more rocky influence to my music. They are heavy laden with guitar and deserve to be played loud! I am incredibly proud of the results because this collection of music is all the things that, for a long while, I couldn't articulate in everyday life. The long nights and the endless searching. Musically speaking, this album features my core band alongside the members of my full 9- Piece Big Band, a project which I love touring with. It’s great to hear the brass and keys on these songs, they add new and rich textures and I find myself feeling musically more refreshed, inspired and dedicated than I have for many years. Line-Up: Bryant, Danny - Guitar and vocals Phillips, Alex - Bass Raeburn, Dave - Drums Hammerton, Richard - Keys and backing vocals Raner, Marc – Acoustic Guitar Maddison,David – Trumpet Maddison, Alex – Trombone Young, Lauren – Tenor Sax Wilkinson, Mark – Baritone Sax Watts, Stevie - Keyboards

Temperature Rising
Danny Bryant Blues Rock
Format: CD
If Danny’s previous album ‘Hurricane’ was notable for pairing Danny Bryant’s best ever songs with Richard Hammerton’s expansive production, then ‘Temperature Rising’ is the closest he’s come to nailing a defining blues rock recording. Recorded in little over 2 weeks in April of this year and drawing on songs that Danny wrote on the road during 2013, ‘Temperature Rising’ is an album full of his wailing signature guitar with deeply wrought intensity and heartfelt ballads. It’s an album by an artist with over 14 years touring behind him and enough personal experiences to transpose them effortlessly into songs. “Richard Hammerton and I met up three or four times in the lead-up to the recording,” says Bryant. “We did some pre production and cut some demos together. We looked at the arrangements etc and pushed ideas back and forth. I love working with Richard, the moment he hears even a snippet of a raw demo, it’s almost as if he can see the whole song there and then in completed fashion. He has such great vision! Also so importantly, he allows me to be myself, to create the kind of album that I want, he makes those initial ideas a reality.” The young guitar protégé has grown up. Danny’s nascent maturity is evidenced in the way he builds his musical vision with broad-brush strokes, without losing any of his essential fire. He was always destined to be a road hardened blues-rock warrior, since being mentored by Walter Trout and touring Europe in the company of Mick Taylor, Santana Buddy Guy etc., before signing with Rounder records. And while each album has been like a chapter in an Photo by Kevin Nixon ever-evolving story, it’s since signing with the Jazzhaus label that he’s enjoyed the kind of backing and focus needed to match his unquenchable thirst for blues-rock. “Jazzhaus have been helping me break into new territories,” continues Bryant. “They believe in me, and are willing to invest in me, they care about the music and they care about the artist. I am very happy there.” Bryant’s career had been steadily building on the old school conveyor belt of relentless touring and recording, while building audiences with explosive performances alongside his recently retired dad Ken Bryant on bass (now superseded by Alex Phillips) and drummer Trevor Barr. The studio albums were always solid and dependable, but up until ‘Hurricane’ they offered only fleeting glimpses of his considerable live potential. But since he rekindled a relationship with producer Richard Hammerton - they last worked together in 2005 whilst recording a session with Danny’s mentor Blues legend Walter Trout - things have started to happen. It’s a synchronistic relationship, which Danny explains as having grown through a mix of trial, error and planning. Says Bryant, “When we first hooked up again two years ago to record Hurricane, Richard’s first question to me was ‘what sort of angle do you want to take? What sort of album do you want to make?’ He wasn’t interested in making a straight ahead generic blues record and neither was I. He was very keen to work the project if we could bring real songs to the table and make a modern ‘produced’ Blues/Rock record. Adding in all of my influences and creating something that was ‘me’. So in a lot of ways recording this album felt like a continuation of those previous sessions. We learned a lot on the last album and we brought that experience to the table for ‘Temperature Rising’.” The opening track ‘Best Of Me’ is notable for the organ layered, stuttering rhythm, an expansive wah-wah break and an echo tinged tough vocal. The sledgehammer blues-rock of ‘Take Me Higher’ pushes Danny’s into Zeppelin territory with big drums, another tough vocal and a perfunctory cutting edge ending, while the later high octane ‘Mystery’ sounds like a fun, ‘live in the studio’ splurge, on a piano-led, guitar driven wig out. “We cut both of those tracks live with the rhythm section and me playing rhythm guitar, but the solos and vocal came after,” recalls Bryant. Danny pours all his combined talents into a powerful album full of passionate playing and emotive vocals. It’s all subtly shaped by a sinuous production that pays as much attention to the micro concerns of hooks, resonant guitar sounds and phrasing, as it does to the ebb and flow of the sequencing. ‘Nothing At All’ is a primo, piano led slice of rock & roll, while in sharp contrast ‘Together Through Life’, is a gently nuanced ballad voiced over a featherbed of layered synths, tinkling piano and acoustic, proving once again there no substitute for a decent melody with ocean wave chord changes. The songs are given their depth by an attention to detail that stands in counterpoint to Danny’s previous bluster. There’s the slide guitar part on the hook of ‘Higher’, the volume swells and drum pattern on ‘Time’ and the unexpected sax on the aptly titled ‘Razor Sharp’, The acoustic-to-electric melodic title track features subtly layered instrumentation with a big sonic quality that evokes Danny’s lyrical meaning, while ‘Time’ has plenty of variety and a constant search for new ideas. For a blues-rocker Danny still has always had an eye for rootsy tinged material. “Sometimes I have to reign in that style a little as the people who come to my live shows are predominantly the blues-rock crowd and I want the albums to always reflect what we create live,” says Bryant. “Lots of the solo’s and vocals on this record were first or seconds takes, that way you keep the spontaneity, that fiery raw edge.” Best of all is slow building ballad ‘Gun Town’, on a perfect meeting of raw gut emotion, lyrical acumen and subtle band interplay as Danny soars on his guitar. “‘Gun Town’ was the first song I wrote for this album, it was a way in so to speak and it’s my favourite,” says Bryant. He’s never sounded better than on this track with its crying guitar tone and a polished arrangement that is closer to Mark Knopfler than his usual style. “The song came about because of my love for reading blues history books,” says Bryant. “Initially, the idea came from reading Honey Boy Edwards ‘The World Don’t Owe Me Nothing’, which is all about his travelling around the USA in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, living through playing his guitar, hustling and living day to day. It’s a snap shot into a life that no longer exists.”
