Das Projekt "AFRICA" ist der Musik des berühmten schwedischen Kontrabassisten und Komponisten Lars Danielsson gewidmet.
Laura und Lars trafen sich 2018 auf der Hauptbühne des Leopolis Jazz Festes in der Ukraine, wo Lars' Komposition ‚Granada‘ aufführten. Laura hatte hierfür den ukrainischen Text geschrieben. Beeindruckt von der Zusammenarbeit mit einem ihrer Lieblingskomponisten, beschloss Laura, weitere Texte für Lars' Musik zu schreiben. Lars bat darum, dass alle Texte ausschließlich auf Ukrainisch verfasst werden, weil es so gut klingt. Später lud Laura Marti ihre Freundin, die berühmte ukrainische Jazzpianistin Nataliya Lebedeva, zum ""Tribute to Lars Danielsson""-Projekt ein, um neue Arrangements für 9 von Lars Songs zu schaffen.
LAURA MARTI ist eine Jazz-, Ethno- und Popsängerin, Komponistin, Schauspielerin und Model. Eine stolze Ukrainerin mit armenischen Wurzeln und brasilianischem Herzen.
Laura kam Ende März 2022 aus der Ukraine nach Deutschland. Im September 2022 hat Laura Musiker aus der Ukraine eingeladen und zwei Jazz-Alben in Deutschland aufgenommen. Die besonderen Gäste, die die Ukraine auch während des Krieges in vollem Umfang unterstützen, waren große Freunde von Laura: Lars Danielsson und Magnus Öström.

Shawn Grocott und Wolfgang Meyer lernten sich 2005 in Detmold kennen und gründeten das Duo Shawn & the Wolf, ein Name, der sich von „Peter und der Wolf“ ableiten lässt.
Der Wolf des Duos ist Wolfgang Meyer, in erster Linie Musikalienhändler in Detmold. Nach über 15 Jahren Pause als aktiver Musiker ließ er sich von seinem Freund Shawn für die Bühne „reaktivieren“. Als Gitarrist in einigen Jazz- und Big-Bands, Dirigent und Schauspielmusiker sammelte er zuvor reichlich Bühnenerfahrung, was sich in der Bandbreite seines Spiels widerspiegelt. Zuweilen lässt er auf seinem Instrument gleichzeitig Bass, Schlagzeug und Gitarre erklingen. Die Kombination der beiden ist auch im Jazz keine gewöhnliche: Posaune und Gitarre hört man in dieser kongenialen Konstellation nur sehr selten. Einen regelrechten Anschub gab es dann mit der Idee einer ersten Tour nach Kanada. Ein Erfolg, denn mittlerweile gab es bereits insgesamt drei Kanada-Touren – und darüber hinaus Konzerte und Festival-Auftritte in Albanien, Brasilien und natürlich in Deutschland.
Wer Shawn & the Wolf hört, wird mehr davon haben wollen. Die beiden in Lipperland lebenden Musiker sind schon auf mehreren Kontinenten gemeinsam aufgetreten und haben nun ihre Musik mit ihrem Debütalbum ATLAS HORAS verewigt – Musik, die bewegt und berührt.
Viele Musikaufnahmen werden vollständig in Studios produziert, die Außenwelt akustisch streng abgeschottet. Neben diesen „klinisch reinen“ Klangbedingungen kommen bei solchen Produktionen oft auch weitreichende, raffinierte technische Nachbearbeitungen ins Spiel, sodass das Ergebnis manchmal weniger kunstvoll, sondern eher künstlich wirkt. Shawn & the Wolf hingegen wünschten sich eine Aufnahme, die durch Echtheit begeistert – und das ist ihnen absolut gelungen. "Fractured" consists of six pieces that narrate diverse emotions and highly personal experiences. The themes range from love to a nearly missed opportunity, or the sensation of seemingly infinite freedom. All composed by Jan Schrüllkamp, the guitarist of the band, these pieces captivate with their lightness and intriguing arrangements featuring vibraphone, saxophone, double bass, and drums. Each track creates its own unique little cosmos.
The Jan Schrüllkamp Quintet consists of Leon Dehne on saxophone, Carlotta Ribbe on vibraphone, Kevin Hemkemeier on double bass, Jonathan Schierhorn on drums, and Jan Schrüllkamp on guitar. All the musicians met during their joint jazz studies at Folkwang University of the Arts (Folkwang UdK) and have been close friends ever since. The band was founded in the summer of 2021 by the guitarist to perform his compositions and experiment with ideas. In November 2022, the band recorded six pieces at Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg, and they plan to release these as their debut album in 2024.
The composition "Fractured" by the Jan Schrüllkamp Quintet serves as the lead single for the album of the same name. It originated on a sunny afternoon while Jan sat on a park bench, having sprained his hand the previous evening during a spontaneous race with a friend. After a brief hospital visit the next day, he settled on the park bench and began to write. When finished, he inscribed "Fractured" in large letters across the composition.

Sophisticated musicianship, imaginative lyrics, and a flair for melody are signatures of the sound of Monkey House, a sound that has earned the group serious critical acclaim, peer respect, and a steadily expanding international following.
Those characteristics are again evident on Friday. It is the fifth full-length release from the L.A./Toronto combo that has just celebrated the notable milestone of 25 years of playing together. That rare longevity has resulted in an invaluable empathy in the musical interactions of the core members: singer/songwriter/keyboardist Don Breithaupt, drummer Mark Kelso, bassist Pat Kilbride, and guitarist Justin Abedin. Also contributing prominently to Friday is the elite Toronto horn section of William Sperandei, Vern Dorge, John Johnson, William Carn and Tony Carlucci, as well as percussionist Art Avalos.
Adding to the comfort level in the studio for the recording of Friday was the return of the team of co-producer Peter Cardinali and engineer John ‘Beetle’ Bailey, reprising their roles from previous Monkey House records. Cardinali also plays bass on four tracks.
All but two of the tracks on Friday are solo Don Breithaupt compositions. One of them, "Book Of Liars", is a cover of a song by Steely Dan's Walter Becker. "As a lifelong Steely Dan fan, Walter's death hit me hard," says Don. "I thought it'd be a nice gesture to do one of his."
This generous 12-song collection sounds cohesive, while possessing enough musical twists and turns to keep things interesting. Don terms Friday "an album that may be more rhythmically-based than any of the previous ones. For the last album [2016's Left], I made a concerted effort to write each song at the piano. With this one, I was often looping rhythms and playing along with grooves, even on the first day of writing. When you have a rhythm going, it gives everything momentum.”
“A couple of songs here show more of an ’80s influence from bands like The Police and XTC. It still sounds like Monkey House, but it’s fun to stir in a couple of extra ingredients each time and see how they mix in. If you’re thinking of Friday on a compass, it has moved a few degrees towards R&B, soul and blues as opposed to some songs on earlier albums that were more poppy or Beatles-derived.”
As has become the norm on Monkey House records, Friday features some notable guests. Guitarist Drew Zingg (Boz Scaggs) and trumpeter Michael Leonhart (Steely Dan) have guested on previous albums and make tasteful contributions here, as does François D’Amours (Gino Vannelli), and Snarky Puppy guitarist Mark Lettieri. Ground Up artist Lucy Woodward (Rod Stewart) adds background vocals throughout, while famed vocal quartet The Manhattan Transfer add their magic to the choruses of “The Jazz Life.” It’s hard to mistake the sound of those four incredible voices together.”
One song sure to provoke discussion is “10,000 Hours," described by Don as “a winking spoof” of Malcolm Gladwell's famed maxim. “You have to do the right stuff, not just put in the time,” he stresses. The tune features both funk and Latin feels, with Lettieri soloing in both styles.
Don notes, “I have a tradition of having at least one poppy, quirky, outlier track on an album. This time, it’s ‘(I Wanna Ride) Shotgun,’ which is designed to be fun and funky and stick in people's heads.” It’s a tune as warm and breezy as a Malibu drive in a vintage convertible.

The French composer and pianist Tatiana Alamartine is known for her skillful jazz improvisation and fresh, modern musical style. Born in 1988, she began playing the piano at the young age of five and quickly developed a passion for both classical and jazz music. At the age of 12, a transformative masterclass with musician Francis Vidil inspired her to delve deeper into the art of improvisation.
Throughout her career, Tatiana has had the privilege of playing and learning alongside renowned musicians such as Youn Sun Nah and Frank Avitabile, which greatly influenced her musical development. Her compositions blend elements of jazz with notes of pop, creating a unique and vibrant sound that showcases her classical background.
Tatiana received classical piano training from Chantal Lamarre at the Bourgoin Jallieu Conservatory and Chrystel Saussac at the Lyon Conservatory. She successfully obtained a Musical State Diploma in Bourgoin Jallieu and later in Lyon, specializing in jazz piano under the guidance of Mario Stantchev and Frank Avitabile. Additionally, she achieved the distinction of a Chamber Music Graduate with a
unanimous mention of "very good" at the Bourgoin Jallieu Conservatory.
In 2011, Tatiana's exceptional talent was recognized when she won the 3rd prize at the international competition of Montrond-les-Bains. Her captivating recital program included a nocturne by Chopin, a piece by Scarlatti, and a contemporary work, showcasing her versatility and mastery of different musical styles.
Tatiana has performed in various venues across France, including Le Havre, Trouville-sur-Mer, Paris, Lyon, the Rhône-Alpes region, Vienne, Chamonix, Chirens, as well as internationally in Italy, China, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic. Notably, she performed at the Festival Lumière de Lyon, held at the Institut Lumière, where she participated in a cine-concert accompanying an Italian
silent film, with an introduction by Thierry Frémaux.
In addition to her performances, Tatiana has collaborated with director Caroline Puig Grenetier in the creation of five documentary films. She wrote the original music for films such as "The Arts, Art History, and School" (CapCanal), "Rue des Martyrs de Vingré" (CLC Production), "Raymond Barre, In Search of the Present Time" (co-produced by Y.N/La cuisine à l'image production and France 3 Rhône-Alpes), "Charles de Foucault" (Base Production Camp), and "Theilhard de Chardin" (Y.N/La cuisine à l'image production). She also composed the score for "A l'école des scaphandriers" by Véronique Lhorme (Yn Production, France 3 Paca) and "Arktic" by Frederic Aujas (Yn Production) for Ushuaia TV. Since August 2022, Tatiana Alamartine has been sharing her passion for music as a teacher at the Copperfield International School in Verbier. She has also worked as a musician for the Lyon portrait house Trafalgar, further contributing to the artistic landscape.

The Blues of Bogotá is on the rise in our latitudes? Sounds a bit crazy, and it is. Direct from the Colombian capital penetrates – amongst all the salsa, rock and electronic sounds – a raspy voice, that causes the ground to tremble. Daniel Restrepo causes with his combo fatsO a leverage of Latin clichés, and offsets the Andes to the middle of the southern continent. Celebrated in their home country, the exciting septet is preparing to make their leap to Europe.
After six months of polishing, the debut album was a hit amongst the Colombians when Restrepo and his men presented it at the Bogotá Jazz in the Park festival. The nine songs in English plus a Spanish interlude on the debut album encloses rattling Blues, old Jazz and hard-edge Rock, bringing up for split seconds memories of Tom Waits, Joe Cocker or Leonard Cohen – and yet it was all filtered through the pulsing climate of the Andean metropolis.
In Out Of Control a leaden rebellious Blues Rock breaks through the fence, with Hello one is given a merry, cross beat, approachable serenade. Brain Candy evokes with uncanny chromaticism the sultry atmosphere of a South American hole in the wall, and Pimp leads with rumbling drums even deeper into the musical den of iniquity, somewhere between archaic Swing Explosion and Proto-Rap. In the melancholy of Crying Out, one genuinely worries about the vocal chords of Restrepo’s desperately bellowing voice, while a clarinet, one of the national instruments of Colombia, exultingly fights ist way to the forefront. All the while in It’s Getting Bad, the ballad of a couple drunk on love, the electric guitar has ist moment of glory. With Oye Pelao the combo finally appoaches in the mother tongue the unmistakably traditional Cumbia and Vallenato colorations. And on the foundation of all these hymns of outlaws, outcasts or possessed is fatsO, Restrepo’s inseperable companion with his boastful, bone dry grooves.
The raspy bassist and his wild six want to take Europe by storm. With their raw Energy emerging from the midst of a cauldron of 8 million, it should be no problem. The first indications of this were at their concert at the trade fair Jazzahead in Bremen last spring, where the Latinos were celebrated with standing ovations.

The world has changed a lot since 1992, when Don Breithaupt first collected an album’s worth of his irresistibly hooky and jazzy pop songs and formed Monkey House. Since then, the talented and prolific Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, composer, arranger, and producer has stamped the band’s Kurt Vonnegut-inspired moniker on five albums of original material, including Headquarters (2012), Left (2016) and Friday (2019), the latter a blazing tour de force which topped the iTunes jazz chart and went to #11 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Albums chart.
Now, to mark their 30th anniversary, Monkey House presents their most accomplished and exciting set yet, Remember The Audio, on which Breithaupt is joined by his A-List wrecking crew of Mark Kelso on drums, Pat Kilbride on bass, Justin Abedin on guitar, and guests including trumpeters Randy Brecker, Guido Basso and Michael Leonhart (Steely Dan), guitarist Drew Zingg (Boz Scaggs), and singers Lucy Woodward (Snarky Puppy) and David Blamires (Pat Metheny). After years of fluid lineups, Breithaupt says he had an epiphany back in 2011 while rounding up the usual suspects to make Headquarters: “Hey, wouldn’t it be nice if this coalesced into a steady band?”
Breithaupt got more than just a band: Monkey House is a crack team of virtuosos playing in sync and in service to his instantly hummable songs. Like the last three Monkey House albums, Remember The Audio was produced by Peter Cardinali and Breithaupt.
Breithaupt had already written most of the music on Remember The Audio pre-COVID, but he figures “at least half of the lyrics were written in the spring of 2020, after the world shut down.”
“I’ll cop to the end-times theme,” says Breithaupt over Zoom from his Santa Monica studio. “Will the last one out of L.A. kill the light, etc. The music isn’t downbeat at all, but under the shiny surface and the hooks… That’s why Mose Allison’s ‘Ever Since The World Ended’ fit right in. I thought it would be a good coda for the album because it’s fatalistic, but it’s also really funny and not too heavy.”
